Bob’s Clam Hut

I have to admit that I have a slight obsession with Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives.  It’s fun walking into a restaurant and then finding out that Guy Fieri had already been here and deemed it worthy.  I like to learn about the history of the restaurants and the stories behind their most famous dishes.  These are not pretentious restaurants, these are restaurants that dedicated themselves to become the best restaurants for the customers.

I took the day off work one day and decided to make the short drive up to Maine.  Before I go any place new, I like to go onto Triple D website to find out if there are any good local eateries that I must try out.  I searched the Triple D site to see if there were any fun places to visit in the Portland, ME area. The first restaurant that popped up was Bob’s Clam Hut and I found out that it was even closer than Portland.  I read about the two types of fried clams and that it was one of those restaurants that you walked up to a window to order food and then sit outside.  It was exactly what I was looking for and marked it on my GPS.

The drive up was really easy, the restaurant was on the main road through Kittery, ME and the atmosphere was exactly what I was looking for.  The food was bountiful and offered just the right amount of fried fish.  I ordered the Lilian clam basket and sat outside and enjoyed my meal.  I have to admit that I could only eat a fifth of what they gave me, I asked for a “To Go” box and they gave me two paper trays to put on top of one another and then I was off.  My adventure up to Kittery was a success and I left with a memory of another great food experience.
